Bauerfeind AG from Zeulenroda, Thuringia, Germany, is expanding its Olympic involvement. The manufacturer of medical products such as supports, compression stockings and orthopedic insoles is becoming a “Friend of the Games“ for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Canada. This means that athletes from all 83 participating nations can be treated with Bauerfeind products if they become injured.

A Bauerfeind team will support the physicians working at the healthcare centers in each of the Olympic villages in Vancouver and Whistler. If injured, the winter athletes will be treated with Bauerfeind supports and orthoses. The ideal product for the athlete will be selected in consultation with the team physician or physical therapist. Bauerfeind’s service also includes custom-fitting the product. Furthermore, a package with Bauerfeind products will be available at all Olympic competition venues for fast first aid.

The use and mode of action of Bauerfeind products will be presented, along with other information, at a medical symposium in Vancouver in June 2009. Participants will include physicians from all over the world who will be working during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games as team physicians, trainers or physical therapists. In the run-up to the Games Canadian doctors who will be working with Bauerfeind products at the competition venues and at the healthcare centers will be trained how to use the products.

Bauerfeind AG brings its experience from involvement in the past four Olympic Games to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The company has been an official supplier to the German Olympic team since 2001 and has been on the ground for the German team at all the Olympic Games thereafter. “Beijing convinced us of the excellence of Bauerfeind’s products and professional service. With Bauerfeind, we are pleased to have a supplier with such expertise,” declared Jack Taunton, Chief Medical Officer of the 2010 Olympic Games.

“We are proud that our products and the service that we provide to the German Olympic team have been internationally recognized and appreciated in this way,” said CEO Prof. Hans B. Bauerfeind. He explained that Bauerfeind AG remains an integral part of the medical support network for the German team and in addition to the commitment as ‘Friend of the Games’ will be present at the Deutsches Haus (German House) during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games as previously in Salt Lake City, Athens, Turin and Peking.
