Less pain and more stability for SI joint patients
New study results about SacroLoc pelvic orthosis

The effects of SacroLoc on the biomechanics of the pelvis helps back patients with pain in the iliosacral joints (SI joints) to achieve better quality of life. A new clinical study conducted by the Technical University of Chemnitz on pelvic orthosis demonstrated the following results: After wearing the orthosis for six weeks, SI joint patients experience less pain, increased back stability and demonstrate improved balance according to measurements.
Therapeutic treatment with SacroLoc was experimented on test subjects with a long history of pain due to a diagnostically verified SI joint syndrome. In a treatment group with orthosis and a control group without orthosis, 22 patients in each group assessed the pain and stability they experienced over a period of six weeks using a numerical rating scale (NRS) ranging from 0 to 10. With the orthosis, the average values of pain intensity showed a stronger decrease, from 4.5 to 2.0, than in the control group (4.0 to 3.5). 19 of the 22 patients who wore SacroLoc for the study indicated that their chronic pain had improved. The sense of stability experienced by this group of patients also improved significantly, from 5 to 7.5 NRS points, while the control group without the orthosis did not exhibit significant changes.
The study also investigated the patients' degree of limitation when standing, sitting, walking and lying down as well as during their daily private and professional routines. In both groups, improvements of at least 0.5 to 1 NRS points were demonstrated. In the categories of standing and sitting in their private and particularly in their professional routines, these improvements were significantly greater with SacroLoc than without the pelvic orthosis. The peak value was achieved by therapeutic treatment when standing, with an average improvement of 3.5 NRS points. This positive impact on stability of posture was also demonstrated experimentally by measurements of dynamic balance. With SacroLoc, the center-of-pressure distance reduced by 7.9 percent, which points to improved capacity of balance. This distance describes the effort required for stabilization as a result of sudden disruptions of balance and provides an indication of the performance levels of sensorimotor control.
