Just relax! Easier said than done. A hectic life, not enough time, and worries don’t just lead to emotional tension, your back can be affected, too. But stress isn’t the only reason for tense back muscles.
How you move during the day can cause tense muscles. Your body may be subjected to a lot of strain at work, perhaps from carrying heavy loads or adopting an unfavorable posture. Or the opposite may be the case and you’re sitting at a desk all day, possibly with an unhealthy posture. Tense muscles result in pain that quickly causes you to adopt a relief posture – which, in turn, causes further tension.
“Relaxation therapy” is one of five modules of Bauerfeind’s back therapy. If you want to find out more about comprehensive back therapy and the other modules, you can find all the information here:
How to relax your back
To relax your back muscles, progressive muscle relaxation according to Jacobson, also known as progressive muscle relaxation, has proven effective. It’s the method that is used most frequently for back relaxation in cases of chronic back pain.
During progressive muscle relaxation, you will learn how to become aware of tension and how to influence it. But even more importantly: thanks to targeted exercises, you can release tension and relax your back muscles.
Practice by yourself
It’s easy to learn the method of progressive muscle relaxation and to carry out the exercises at home. Just watch our video where an experienced expert gives you instructions.
If you’re already being treated or actively taking part in relaxation exercises, you must consult the treating physician or an expert supporting you before implementing our recommendations.
Providing support, promoting activity

Depending on the severity of your pain and during which activities it restricts you most, additional medical products may be needed. They’re generally recommended and prescribed by the treating physician. Supports and orthoses can stabilize your back, promote a healthy posture, and help you stay active.
