Then you will receive a result that will provide you with an assessment about how likely it is that you are suffering from lymphedema or lipedema.
At the end of the test, download our diagnosis checklist. Use it to prepare for your appointment with a physician.
A person is usually diagnosed with lipedema or lymphedema solely based on their medical history and an examination by a physician. Your physician has to make sure that you’re not suffering from other conditions that cause swelling. That’s why you’re usually asked a lot of questions about your symptoms: when you first noticed them, how they developed, and whether you’ve had other conditions in the past.
A physical examination usually follows. If your physician suspects you have lymphedema, your tissue, lymph nodes, swollen body parts, and your venous system will also be closely examined. In addition to these examination options, there are also other ways of diagnosing lipedema/lymphedema if the basic diagnosis doesn’t provide a clear finding.
If you want to get a second opinion on your diagnosis, then you’re in good hands with physicians who specialize in vascular diseases, the skin or metabolic disorders. Alternatively, use the following links to look for a physician who specializes in lymphology in your area.
Once lipedema or lymphedema has been diagnosed, the physician will prescribe physical measures for decongestion, i.e. manual lymphatic drainage, and then a medical compression product to maintain the decongested state. Medical supply retailers will professionally advise and measure you. Compression products, such as the VenoTrain curaflow, are then custom-made for you.
