Knowing the effects – physicians and patients trust in evidence-based medicine. There is now up-to-date research data for joint-preserving treatment using orthoses in cases of osteoarthritis of the knee. In 2024, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) published the results of a study using the GenuTrain OA soft brace, which showed significant patient improvements.
24 physically active test subjects suffering from moderate medial osteoarthritis of the knee took part. After six weeks of wearing the brace, pain at night, at rest, and when subjected to strain reduced by more than 40 percent. Intensive physical activity increased by 50.6 percent on average. The test subjects reported being less restricted during everyday activities and exercise, as well as noticing an improved quality of life.
The clinical study was published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine. Selected results are available as a digital whitepaper from medical.affairs@bauerfeind.com.
