A new restriction set expands the options to adjust Bauerfeind’s SecuTec Genu hard-frame orthosis: Knee extension can additionally be restricted to 90, 75, and 60 degrees. The extension blocks can be inserted without the need for tools, and allow conservative treatment of an acute anterior cruciate ligament rupture in accordance with the Cross Bracing Protocol. The objective of the innovative procedure is to support natural healing of the anterior cruciate ligament.
During the Cross Bracing Protocol, the injured knee is initially immobilized at a right angle for several weeks, with flexion and extension both being restricted to 90 degrees. This position is designed to promote the ruptured ligament ends converging again. Over the course of the treatment, extension is allowed gradually. Very specific physiotherapy is part of the treatment.*
The Cross Bracing Protocol is a treatment option for selected patients. Criteria include, for example, the timing of the patient seeing the physician after the injury has occurred, MRI findings, and patient-related aspects. The procedure has had promising clinical results and is currently being scientifically researched further.**
Convenient treatment
The SecuTec Genu stabilizes the knee joint according to the 4-point principle and protects it against damaging, incorrect movements. Flexion and extension can be adjusted independently. The hard-frame orthosis is available as a frontal and a dorsal version. For patients choosing the Cross Bracing Protocol following medical consultation, the frontal version is particularly convenient: It is donned on the knee from the front, it is comfortable to wear, and can easily be opened and fixed in position using quick-release fasteners.
The restriction set with three pairs of extension blocks for 90, 75, and 60 degrees is available as an accessory for the SecuTec Genu. You can receive further information about the SecuTec Genu hard-frame orthosis and the restriction set from your local Bauerfeind Sales Representative or International Customer Service.
